Sara Green, LCSW

Born in Brooklyn to Polish and Jewish immigrants, I grew up navigating multiple cultures as a second-generation American. The lifelong experience of trying to better understand one's roots while simultaneously feeling disconnected from them has shaped my clinical practice.

My early career spanned working in a school on Rikers Island and helping launch a school in Oakland for young adults who migrated to this country without their parents. Through this work, I held space for clients during profound feelings of disconnection, displacement and grief. I learned more about perinatal mental health as some of the young people set down roots and started families of their own. These profound experiences deepened my focus on intergenerational trauma and the mental health impacts of displacement.

I now work with clients who are feeling disconnected from themselves or others while experiencing major life transitions. I specifically support children of immigrants in addressing intergenerational trauma and how this may show up for them in their own parenthood journey. In addition, I focus on birthing parents who may be experiencing postpartum depression or are healing from birth trauma.
